SharePoint Health Checks

Updated: Jun 24

Over the course of my life, I have owned quite a few vehicles. Unfortunately, some have not been very reliable. Living in a cold Canadian climate, I prioritize not being stuck on the side of the road in freezing temperatures, thus putting a considerable amount of effort into ensuring my vehicles are in good, working condition. For some of them that was a challenge, but in reality a vehicle is a very complex system. Ultimately, while there is some work I could complete myself, I prefer entrusting the professionals with these more complex pieces to ensure my vehicle always stays in good, working order.

Similarly, SharePoint is a complex system, and if not managed properly, the associated pitfalls could leave you "stranded on the side of the road." The complex and intricate nature of the Microsoft 365 stack results in less visible an often-obfuscated small risks that may not be evident to most users and administrators. It's important to note that these invisible risks are not a failure of your knowledge; rather they are simply small things people who work with Microsoft 365 on a regular basis learn through experience. Much like a vehicle has very complex systems that require training and experience, our experienced resources are ready to bring lessons learned to the table in order to provide the best advice.

In order to identify these pitfalls and assess for invisible risks, organizations should consider doing a SharePoint health check once in a while as a way to to identify opportunities for improvement and solidify ways to avoid risks throughout the Microsoft 365 environment.

Cadence Solutions offers a SharePoint Health Check through which our expert team identifies gaps by assessing over 130 aspects of your Microsoft 365 environment, including:

  • Governance policies and procedures

  • The security enabled throughout the environment

  • The administration and control over the environment

  • Usage of the environment for collaboration

  • Usage of tools to eliminate expired, redundant, or transitory data

  • Organizational change management practices to determine whether people have the training they need to succeed with the tool.

As you may or may not be aware, CoPilot (and other generative AI products) often has significant and wide-ranging access to the data stored in your Microsoft 365 environment. As a result, turning on copilot without first doing a health check may result in CoPilot obtaining data to which it should not have access.

A SharePoint Health Check is a great diagnostic tool if you're already using SharePoint and want to get better at using the tool in a more secure and compliant manner. And as mentioned above, this health check is even more valuable to highlight gaps that may impact your usage of CoPilot, if you plan on doing so down the road.

As a provider of expertise who knows Microsoft 365 like the back of our hand, Cadence Solutions is ready to help perform this diagnostic to give you the peace of mind you deserve as you leverage Microsoft 365 to support your business.
