Introduction

The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation® (AAMI) is a non-profit organization based in Washington DC area. It is a diverse community made up of more than 9,000 professionals focused on the development, management, and use of safe and effective health technology.

AAMI had an efficiency problem. An inflexible and outdated ECM system created bottlenecks for consensus standards, and technical information reports, both of which are core business functions. These documents are developed collaboratively over many sessions and then voted upon. The inability to effectively collect, store, and report on document and ballot (voting) information was a major pain point. This lead frustrated staff, volunteers, and AAMI members. AAMI executives recognized that a change was needed.
Solution

AAMI selected Cadence Solutions to implement OpenText Extended ECM server as their solution. Simultaneously, they wanted OpenText seamlessly integrated with their Salesforce CRM which contains all member information and was replacing iMIS. The entire medical document lifecycle is efficient, secure, and accessible within the OpenText system while adhering all required medical industry standards. AAMI now has a flexible document management system, and standardized shared workspace for both, AAMI members to submit data, and AAMI employees to organize and collaborate on it.

Outcome
​
The influx of information bottleneck has been resolved. A small number of AAMI users now easily collaborate with a group of community members over 100x their size. Established, there is now a conveniently organized, simple to use Business Workspace for AAMI employees to operate in. It’s also much easier for any new AAMI employee to onboard into the organization. Cadence has been trusted as the long-term managed service provider.
